Ex-pat Therapy
______
Dr Nick Wakefield/I has lived and worked as an expat (Middle East) for many years and therefore has great awareness of the unique therapeutic needs and lived experience of people residing away from their place of origin. Living in a different country and culture from that of your place of origin can be extremely rewarding in enriching. However, it can also present a number of difficulties such as limited sense of community, isolation, loss of supportive relationships, changes in intimate relationships, change in status or career. All of these things can trigger new or pre-existing psychological distress. Having a therapist who understands some things about the nature of expat and third culture life can be of great benefit to the therapy process.
